E-Landscape Selected to Install Landscaping for Monsenor Romero Apartments in Washington, DC

Davidsonville, MD August 28, 2013 – Davidsonville, Maryland‐based commercial landscaper E‐Landscape Specialty Solutions announced that it has been selected to install the landscaping for the new, $19 million Monsenor Romero Apartment project located at 3145 Mount Pleasant Street in Northwest Washington, DC. The development replaces the previous Deauville apartment building that was destroyed by fire in 2008, the most destructive fire in 30 years in Washington, D.C. The building is named in honor of the assassinated El Salvadorian Catholic Church Bishop who was a champion of the poor and spoke out against poverty and social injustice. “We’ve really made a commitment to doing work in the affordable housing sector,” explained E‐ Landscape President Eric Drenner. “This project at Monsenor Romero is a great addition to our portfolio and a fantastic opportunity for us to team again  with Hamel Builders on a Wiencek + Associates project.” The 58,000‐square‐foot project involves the substantial rehabilitation of 31 apartments in the south wing. Thirty‐two apartments are being constructed in the former north wing of the building behind the facade, the only portion remaining after the fire. Forty‐seven of the 63 homes will be available at lower rental rates to former residents who were displaced by the fire. Four apartments are designated to become homes for the physically disabled. The project will meet Enterprise Green Communities Criteria, the nation’s first framework for greening affordable housing, as required by the District of Columbia. The general contractor for the project is Hamel Builders and Wiencek + Associates are the architects. E‐ Landscape is responsible for installing the lawns, landscape, decorative stone, brick paving, segmental retaining walls, greenscreens, and site furnishings. Monsenor Romero Apartments is the latest in a long list of affordable housing projects for which E‐ Landscape has provided landscape installation services. Other recent projects have included Gateway Village, Wheeler Terrace, the House of Lebanon, Arlington Mills Residences, Richmond Hill Manor, The Avenue (Park Morton), Dahlgreen Courts, The SeVerna, Poppleton Place, and Buchanan Gardens, to name a few.
